Asalam alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu.
Hello and welcome to my little corner. Before, I take you into the world
of the enterprising muslimah, here's a brief back story.
I was your average Nigerian girl hoping to secure a good job after school (University of Jos), work a bit, then go back for a Masters at the London School of Economics (the dream). I had plans to become a chartered accountant. Maybe practice a bit with a firm then start my own consultancy firm. Yes, I had dreams.
I finished school in 2002, finished the mandatory NYSC programme in 2004 and fortunate to start work at a commercial bank by 2005. Somewhere down the road, I realized banking wasn't for me, but I could not leave the job because a girl has got to eat. So, there I was slaving at a job I didn't like while trying to become a chartered accountant. (Not easy, I'm no genius). Having not passed a couple of diets I generally put the ICAN thing on hold. (it's still on hold) . I met my husband in 2007 and we got married in 2008. Alhamdulillah, Allah upgraded me to mummy status.
By the end of 2015, we have three beautiful daughters and I now refer to my hubby as the father of nations. (May God protect and bless all children. Amin)
Anyways, I left banking in 2013 to engage in something less time consuming. Mind you, some of my friends and family thought I was bunkers for leaving a very good job. Well only I knew how badly ‘the shoes’ hurt. I have applied for work in several establishments but nothing clicked. So instead of waiting for things to happen, I decided the way forward is to make things happen for myself. This time I am engaged in something I believe in and growing at my own pace. Plans for further studies are rescheduled. Not to worry I'll be sure to fill you in as time goes on. I now work from home mostly. I sometimes meet with customers outside but I still maintain keep my much desired freedom and I work at my own pace as a sales/business consultant among other things. Thankfully we are in an age where technology has made many things easier and I urge everyone reading this to take advantage of the opportunities I will be telling you about in subsequent posts.
So that's me in brief. Did I mention that I am, in fact, brief. :-) My name is Halima Ize Ajiboye and you are most welcome to the Enterprising muslimah. I will also share with you my experiences outside corporate life and the possibilities outside the 9 to 5 grind. This platform is not for women alone, my brothers are also welcome. ;-)
