As we go to the masjid

Asalam alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu. Welcome. I hope you are doing great. Here’s just a few reminders on proper etiquette on visiting the masjid. Although it is not compulsory for women to pray in the masjid, it’s important to these rules when we do:

1.                    Dress properly (Q24:31)

2.                  Go into the masjid quickly but calmly. It’s definitely not time to cat-walk but do not jostle with brothers or sisters on the way to or inside the masjid.

3.                    No perfume, please

4.                  Always use the entrance meant for women to avoid creating a scene. If you are new to the area try to locate the correct entrance before prayer time.

5.                    Note that the best rows are at the back.

6.                   If the imam makes any mistake in his prayer, we should clap once, only men should say “Subhan Allaah!”

7.                    The women should leave the mosque before the men, and the men should wait until the women have dispersed to their homes, as mentioned in the hadeeth of Umm Salamah (may Allaah be pleased with her)  Saheeh al-Bukhaari

However, in the cases where the men do not wait, please wait until the coast is clear so you don’t struggle with the brothers while trying to leave the premises.

8.                    Be considerate of your neighbour. Whether at the car park or inside the masjid, make room for your sisters in the house of Allah.

9.                    If you are coming with kids to the masjid, ensure you have adequate control of them so they don’t cause distractions during salat.

10.                Be patient with mothers and their children who have come to the masjid. Be friendly and the warm experience could well encourage your sister to come again.

11.                Do not carry any unclean & impure items in your pockets or bags to the masjid

12.                Do not go to the masjid if you have eaten garlic, onions or other foods with strong smell until the odour from your mouth has vanished.

13.                You must perform required ghusl before proceeding to the masjid, if you are in a state of janabat and haydh. But you can enter the masjid if you are in the state istihadha.

14.                Enter the masjid with the right foot and recite this Du’a:

Allaahumma'ftah lanaa baaba rahmatika waj`alnaa min 'ammari masaajidika, jalla thanaa'u wajhik.”

”O Allah, open for us the doors of Your mercy and make us amongst those who frequent Your mosques. Exalted is the praise of Your countenance.”
15.                Greet the sisters already present, unless they are engaged in acts of worship.

16.           Recite two rak'at prayer as a gesture of greeting and respect to the mosque.

17.               When inside the masjid, you are a guest of Allah (SWT) and you are in the presence of angels and believers. Beautify the environment with continuous remembrance of Allah (SWT) and pleading for His forgiveness (Istighfar).

18.                Avoid raising your voice, worldly talks and discussion while you are inside the masjid. Carrying out business transactions in the mosque is detestable.
19.                Do not take away anything belonging to the masjid. If you need to borrow an item then ensure that you have sought permission from the appointed trustee.

20.                When exiting the mosque, step out with the left foot and recite the following supplication:

“Bismillah. Allaahumma Salli 'Ala Muhammadin wa Aali Muhammad. Fagh-fir dhunoobe waf-tah abwaaba fadhlik.”

”(I exit) In the Name of Allah. O' Allah! send Your prayers upon Muhammad and the progeny of Muhammad and forgive my sins and open the doors of Your grace (to me).”

And when we are not going to the masjid, nothing should take priority over our salat.

May Allah make us among those who offer salat. Amin.

I'll be back soon, in sha Allah.
